Autumn's Story
At 20 weeks gestation, our daughter, Autumn Rei, was diagnosed with Trisomy 18. Autumn had three copies of chromosome 18, resulting in many of her organs developing in abnormal ways. Many babies with Trisomy 18 do not survive past the second or third trimester. About half of babies who are carried to full term are born still.
Such was the case with Autumn. On September 16, 2021, at 8:18 pm, our sweet girl was born into Heaven. Prior to Autumn’s birth, we knew we wanted to start a charity to honor her legacy. We were extremely blessed to be surrounded by an exceptional village throughout our journey with Autumn. The Pediatric Palliative Care Team at MUSC Children’s Hospital took us under their wings and provided an experience that we will treasure forever. We want all families faced with similar circumstances to experience that same level of care and support. That’s where Autumn’s Way comes in. We can’t change what families are going through, but we’re here to play a small part in impacting how they go through it. |
